Blackberry Pie – made the right way!

When it comes to making blackberry pie, there is only one way to make it. Specifically, the right way. With this recipe, you will learn how to make a delicious Blackberry pie from scratch. Importantly, you will be making a pie that your friends and family will love. But, there is a few things you need to know before starting to make the pie. And, that is about the berries themselves. Similarly, you will find that a blackberry and a black raspberry can get confusing sometimes. But, they are quite different, here why. Blackberries, when picked, have no opening on the underside. Where as, a black raspberry does.

This information is useful when you are picking them yourself or buying them at a farmers market. Sometimes at the farmers market they will say they are blackberries, but, they will be raspberries, or vice versa. Just a little helpful hint when handling them fresh. For most part, if you purchase them frozen, the bag usually tells you what they are. Below shows the differences.

Now you know the difference, let get started making some delicious blackberry pie.

What you are going to need for blackberry pie:

2 uncooked Pie Crust (1 for the bottom and 1 for the top) Find pie crust here

4 to 5 cups Blackberries (depending on size, may need more)

¾ cup Sugar

A little bit of sugar

3 Tablespoons Cornstarch

¾ cup Water

Bowl

Spoon

Lets get started:

First, your going to take your pie dough and place it in the pie pan (9½ in).

Next, take your 4 to 5 cups Blackberries blackberries (doesn’t matter if they are fresh or frozen) and place them in the bowl.
Then, ¾ cup Watertake your water and mix it up really good with the berries.
After that, ¾ cup Sugar
3 TBSP Cornstarch
add your sugar and cornstarch to the mixture and mix very well, while trying to cover all the berries you can.

When you got them all mixed up, you can add the mixture to your pie dough that is in the pan. With that in mind, its best that your berries are kind of sticking up, out of the pie some. Nobody likes a flat pie (“looks wise”). Next take your top pie dough and place it over top of the berries, making sure it extends over the edges a little.

First, on the edges, take your pointer finger and thumb of your left hand and place near the outside of pie crust. Next, with your right hand place your pointer finger on the insides of the crust. Then carefully make a V with around your pointer finger on your right hand, by pressing slowly with your left hand pointer finger and thumb. Then, continue all the way around the crust until you are finished. Does take some practice, but once you get it, no problem.

Finshing up your Blackberry Pie:

Finally, A little bit of sugarafter you have your edges finished, take sugar and sprinkle it all over the top (more or less is your decision). Then, take a knife and make four sliced opening in the top to let it breath.

Cook Time: 45 minutes to 1 hour (depending whether berries were frozen or not) at 425°
